The impact on the rock formation in a well located in any of the climatic regions of the Russian Federation (described in GOST 16350-80) requires the sealing of the tubing string and drill pipes in the casing of the well. Sealing pipes in the casing of the well is done by packers. Among the mechanisms most often used in the domestic oil and gas industry for this purpose is a mechanical 4PVM packer. From its predecessors - 2PVM and 3PVM - this mechanism is distinguished by the presence of 6 slots, and not 4 (as in the 3PVM model), and the presence in the packer design of two cuffs against one cuff in 2PVM. This ensures a more secure fit of the mechanical 4PVM packer in the casing.
Overview:
Lowering 4PVM to the site of the construction task is carried out together with the descent of the pipe string. In this case, the slip holder is located in the lowermost position. During the rotation of the column in a clockwise direction, the retainer enters the long slot of the barrel groove, which leads to the release of the slip holder. When the column is lowered, the slips are clamped due to the action of the springs. The weight of the pipe string presses on the mechanical 4PVM packer, which presses on the cuffs through the head and support. The cuffs are deformed, sealing the packer. When the columns are tensioned, the cuffs take their original shape, the slips are released by the cone, and the packer is removed from its location.
