The Claus reactor is a horizontal cylindrical apparatus with pseudo-elliptical bottoms, mounted on two supports, one of which is mobile, the other is stationary. The reactor is equipped with process gas inlet and outlet connections, catalyst unloading and temperature measurement connections. A catalyst layer is located inside the apparatus. To support the catalyst, a grate with a grid installed over it is provided. The grate is supported by beams that absorb loads from the weight of the catalyst and the pressure drop across the bed.

The inner surface of the reactor at the catalyst level and below is protected by a 50 mm thick shotcrete lining.
