The Non-Magnetic Drill Collar – Solid Collar is a critical component used in directional drilling and measurement-while-drilling (MWD) operations. Manufactured from SBO's proprietary non-magnetic, high-strength, and corrosion-resistant alloy, the collar provides the necessary weight on bit while maintaining non-magnetic properties essential for accurate survey measurements. The solid collar features high strength for demanding drilling conditions, excellent corrosion resistance for harsh downhole environments, and non-magnetic properties to prevent interference with MWD and LWD tools. The material undergoes rigorous in-house testing including chemical composition analysis, relative magnetic permeability testing, fatigue strength testing, tensile testing, notched bar impact testing, hardness testing, acid testing per ASTM A262, and 100% volumetric ultrasonic NDT. The steel is characterized by high purity, increased chromium and nitrogen content, and specialized cold forging and surface finishing treatments for enhanced stress corrosion resistance.
