ESAB Stain Clean Etching paste
The surface of stainless steels after welding usually changes color and oxidizes. There is also a loss of chromium near the seam. This means that corrosion resistance has decreased. To restore corrosion-resistant properties, it is necessary to remove the oxide layer, as well as the metal surface, which has changed its color and has lost chromium. This can be done by grinding, shot peening or pickling. The latter method is the simplest and cheapest. In most cases, etching provides the best surface appearance.
StainClean outperforms conventional pickling pastes. Thanks to its special chemical composition and jelly-like consistency, it is very easy to use. The paste provides high purity and excellent appearance of the seam.
StainClean consists of nitric (max. 20%), sulfuric (max. 10%) and hydrofluoric (max. 5%) acids, water-insoluble complex fluoride structures diluted with water up to 100%. The production process provides a jelly-like consistency.
• Jelly-like consistency
• Better adhesion
• Ease of use
• Convenience in work
• No need to mix before use
• Emits less nitrogen gases
• Safe during storage
• Very good pickling effect
• Short pickling time
Mode of application:
1. Shake the bottle before use. No mixing required. It is preferable to apply to the seam, which has cooled to room temperature. Do not use at temperatures below +5 ° C.
2. Clean the seam from the slag with a stainless brush. Apply a relatively thick layer of paste. Leave for some time (40-50 minutes for steels of class 304 and 316, for more alloyed steels - for a longer period. You can even leave it overnight)
3. Carefully remove the paste with a stainless steel soaked in water brush and rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.
4. You will get a clean, matte gray seam with the best corrosion protection.
