Tool steel
In the field of tool steels and mould steels, Saarschmiede produces, e.g. hot working steels, die steels, mould steels for the plastics and glass industry as well as unalloyed tool steels.
For tool steels and mould steels too, the trend is towards ever-greater dimensions in ingots and components as well as high quality and high-performance materials.
The increasing requirements regarding purity, homogeneous material characteristics and low-segregation structure of the steels are met by melting in a 16-t vacuum induction furnace as well as by remelting in one of our two ESR facilities. These manufacturing processes result in reduced hot embrittlement, improved values of elongation fracture and necking fracture as well as impact strength values in lateral direction with high toughness and, for pressing and injection moulds, the highest qualities of surface finishing and polishability.
Saarschmiede guarantees properties that are precisely adjusted hardness and high-temperature strength, a high resistance to wear, sufficient toughness, machinability, polishing potential and good etchability with consistently high quality.
