Telemetry Systems with an Electromagnetic Communication Channel TEMS
TEMS telemetry systems allow measurements of the following parameters during drilling:
- Zenith angle
- Azimuth angle
- Diverter position
- Rocks gamma radiation
- Bottom temperature
- Generator revolutions
- Vibration,
- The total magnetic field of the Earth,
- The total vector of the gravitational field of the Earth.
Permneftemashremont JSC produces TEMS telemetry systems with an electromagnetic communication channel of the following standard sizes:
240, 203, 178, 121, 108 mm.
Features
The TEMC telemetry systems have the following features:
- Allow drilling with constant rotation of the drill string by the rotor,
- Allow circulation of flushing fluid when the downhole tool is in the string,
- They are batteryless, i.e. use a downhole generator operating from the movement of flushing fluid as a power source,
- The design of the generator does not have mechanical seals, the oil is not consumed during the operation of the generator, there is no need to control the level and add oil in the drilling environment,
- Allow operation using flushing fluid with high (up to 5%) sand content,
- Insensitive to interference from the operation of the diesel drive and pumps, the condition of pumping equipment,
- They do not require high maintenance costs for the flow part.
Principle of operation
- The TEMC telemetry system consists of a downhole tool, which is installed in the layout of the bottom of the drill string above the hydraulic downhole motor, and ground equipment,
- The downhole tool consists of a downhole measuring unit, a separator, a cable section and a generator. In the process of drilling, the downhole tool measures the navigation and geophysical parameters, encodes them into an electric signal and transmits it to the environment.
- Ground equipment consists of antennas, weight and depth sensors, a receiving device (interface device), a computer station and a driller monitor. On the surface of the Earth, an electrical signal from a downhole tool to the surrounding rock is received by antennas and transmitted to a receiver, which amplifies, filters and decodes the received signal. The decoded information is sent to the driller’s monitor and to the operator’s computer and stored in memory in any convenient format for work.
- The software package used to process the readings of the telemetry system performs information exchange, editing, linking measurement data to depth, visualization on the monitor in digital and graphic form.
