Classification of electric welded steel pipes

Types of electric-welded pipes by quality of steel alloy according to GOST 10705-80

The marking indicates one of the following letters:

• A - in the manufacture of pipes from alloys of grades St4, St3, St2, St1 with standardized mechanical properties in accordance with GOST 380-2005;
• B — electric-welded steel pipes with standardized chemical composition. For their production, alloys of the following grades are used: 22GYu, St1–St4 (GOST 380-2005), 08Yu (GOST 9045-93), 08, 10, 15, 20 (GOST 1050-88), 09G2S;
• B — with standardized composition and mechanical properties. Made from steel 22GYu, 08Yu (GOST 9045-93), 08, 10, 15, 20 (GOST 1050-88), St1–St4 (GOST 380-2005);
• D - with standardized resistance to hydraulic pressure.

Steel pipes are also classified by the ratio of diameter and wall thickness. The type of product is determined depending on this value:

• Less than 6 - particularly thick-walled products;
• 6–12.5 — thick;
• 12.5–40 — thin-walled;
• More than 40 - especially thin-walled.
